Herman Van Nazareth is Belgian / South African painter and sculptor.
He studied at the Royal Academies of Ghent and Antwerp where he mastered the graphic arts.
In the early 1960s Herman Van Nazareth leaves for South Africa.
His images reflect tormentedness, bitterness and rebellion through the strongly implemented simplification of forms, his figures not only reflect the idleness of man, but also his powerlessness in a violent society.
Herman Van Nazareth remains a fixed international value with work in public ownership and various private collections.
Herman Van Nazareth manages to abstract and sublimate human loneliness in a sober expressive formal language. His language is pure but universal and goes back to the primordial forms in a dramatic way.
